Wish You Were Here es el undécimo álbum de la banda británica Pink Floyd, fue grabado y lanzado en 1975.
El plan inicial era grabar tres canciones que habían venido interpretando en vivo en el tour Europeo: Raving And Drooling, You Gotta Be Crazy y Shine On You Crazy Diamond, pero Roger Waters quería que el álbum fuera conceptual, dividir en dos partes a Shine On You Crazy Diamond y añadir tres canciones que acabarian siendo “Welcome to the Machine”, “Have a Cigar”(ambas críticas a la opresión y estupidez de las multinacionales y la industria discografica)y “Wish you were here”(una de las canciones mas recordadas de la banda)
Esto fue uno de los primeros debates entre Roger Waters y David Gilmour. Gilmour quería grabar lo que banda venía interpretando en vivo mientras Waters quería dividir Shine On… en dos partes y crear un álbum conceptual. Se votó tres a uno en contra de David Gilmour. A pesar de este desacuerdo y los malos ratos que se dieron durante la grabación, Gilmour y Richard Wright han revelado en 1995, en el show de radio In the Studio with Redbeard (que dedicó un programa entero a este álbum), que Wish You Were Here es su álbum favorito.
Wish You Were Here alcanzó el primer en lugar de ventas en ambos lados del Atlántico, pero no rindió el enorme éxito de Dark Side of the Moon. Las piezas “Wish you were here” y “Shine on your crazy diamond” han sido parte fundamental de las giras del grupo. “Shine on your crazy diamond” es un canto al talento de Barret y al desplome de su salud mental;canción melancolica , trepidante,pausada y absolutamente genial prueba del grado de perfección alcanzado por la banda.
